Satan didn’t have to say much. But Eve fell for it. It was the first lie ever heard by mankind.
And it went something like this…
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”— Genesis 3:4-5
Notice how the serpent went to the woman first, giving her a reason to desire the fruit by making it beautiful and pleasing to the eye. And once she was hooked, the serpent enticed her the rest of the way with a terrible and powerful lie: that she could be like God.
Now, think about it. Why did the enemy approach Eve in this way? Because he had just made the very same mistake. This is the only kind of rebellion he knows.
Ezekiel 28 describes how Satan’s heart became proud in being distracted by his own beauty. Thirsting for greater splendor, the wisdom he had been entrusted with became corrupt. And soon, being angelic was no longer enough — he began to consider himself divine.
Women,
I’ve seen a cunning lie from the adversary spreading rapidly among our ranks.
It has a name. The Divine Feminine.
This growing New Age movement encourages women to “awaken” the divine within themselves. At face value, it claims to elevate women, beginning on the surface with simple, innocent ideas about understanding yourself more deeply and embracing your inherent femininity. But underneath, we find more cryptic language leading to dangerous ideas like “seeking your own truth” and “awakening your inner goddess”. Every part of this is steeped in paganism and occult worship.
Eve’s folly — “the more you know, the more like God you will become” — continues today. And though it comes in different packaging, nothing has changed. The enemy still wants you to become enamored with your own beauty.
It’s a slow death — one that numbs you to Jesus and ultimately knocks you out of step with the Spirit.
Once that cadence is broken, sin enters and the doors to lust and idolatry are flung wide open. In becoming involved in this movement, women can quickly find themselves worshipping their “energy”, living a life that is more and more sensual every day, and ultimately considering themselves god-like.
I am heartbroken that this message has crept into the hearts of women in the church at large. Pagan worship cannot be tolerated in the House of the Lord.
“What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!” - Romans 7:24-25
Sisters, where shall we go from here? The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit and a contrite heart. He will not despise these sacrifices! A time of repentance and cleansing must come.
As David wrote:
“Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones that you have broken rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners will return to you.
Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God,
O God of my salvation,
and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness.
O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it;
you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.”
— Psalm 51:7-17
But there is good news! There is a message much greater than what divine femininity can offer us, one far more beautiful and redemptive than what we’ll ever find at the heart of these empty promises. God has a lot to say to woman about woman — after all, she is His workmanship. But the seed of His word can only be received by dying to ourselves as we worship the Man on the throne, the One who is the Father’s only image: Christ Jesus, Our Lord. We will find the revelation we so badly crave and so desperately need, but only in the light of His face.
A woman rooted in the Word of God, who walks in freedom, deliverance, and the power of Christ, is far more mighty than a woman who lives enslaved to her flesh and ensnared by her own desires.
If you have found yourself entangled in the Divine Feminine movement or are feeling convicted for adapting your life to some of these beliefs, I pray that you would fully cut ties with deception. Run quickly back to our loving Father in repentance and return humbly to our glorious King. Seek His face and root yourself in the truth of His Word.
Holy Spirit, open the eyes of your daughters in this hour. Break off all spiritual ties to every belief system rooted in the Divine Feminine. Lead your daughters to the truth of Your Word, causing them to live abandoned to You. The message of the Cross has the power to save and to deliver! Thank you, Jesus for dying our death and for purifying us from all of our unrighteousness!
Beautiful! Thank you Megan, for sharing this cautionary word of correction in such love & humility! And thank you for pointing clearly to the HOPE, the FREEDOM, the TRUTH, the LIFE available through Jesus! So good!
so good, Meg...thank you...!
